Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali, may God be pleased with him, was one of the greatest scholars of Islam. His spiritual work, the Ihya Ulum al-Din, is one - if not the - greatest spiritual treatise in Islam.
This particular section of the Ihya deals with the spiritual disease of seeking status among the people.
I love Imam al-Ghazali for his ability to provide a firmly rooted understanding of a spiritual disease from the Qur'an and Sunnah and then provide a treatment for that disease in an easy to understand rehabilitation program.
